PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers2 (12-4-6, 45pts) extended their current unbeaten streak to six games following a scoreless draw with LAFC 2 (8-5-8, 35pts) at Providence Park on Saturday afternoon. After securing their league-leading 12th shutout in regular time, T2 put away eight penalties to Los Angeles' seven in the ensuing penalty kick shootout to secure two points from the matchup. Portland is undefeated in their last six matches (4-0-2, 16 points of 18 points possible) and with tonight’s result stay in second place in the Western Conference standings just a point behind first.
Sam Joseph saves the day
A day after receiving the MLSNP goalkeeper of the month award for July, Sam Joseph backed up his accolade by recording six saves on the day, a season high for the 23 year-old to secure his 10th shutout of 2026. Of note, four of Joseph's saves came in one-on-one situations, preventing each try from entering the net. With the full-time whistle, Joseph extended his league clean sheets lead by four. In the penalty shootout post-regulation time, Joseph made a crucial save to extend the bout to sudden death. The six-foot-four keeper then made a stop on the seventh penalty for LAFC 2, setting up Benjamin Barjolo's winning PK. Joseph's historic 10th shutout places him in the MLS NEXT Pro history books as just the third goalkeeper to achieve 10 or more clean sheets in a season.
