The league leader in shutouts earns honor for the first time
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers2 goalkeeper Sam Joseph has been named the MLS NEXT Pro goalkeeper of the month for the month of July, the league announced today. During the month of July, Joseph allowed only two goals in five total games and registered 14 saves over that stretch. Notably, Joseph recorded three of his record nine clean sheets on the season in July, propelling Timbers2 to an undefeated 4-0-1 run, including a crucial penalty-kick shootout save, earning the extra point, at LAFC 2 on July 11.
Joseph joined the organization as a trialist ahead of the 2026 season and went on to sign a contract with T2. In 16 MLS NEXT Pro games played this season, Joseph has earned league-best nine clean sheets while boasting a 76.7% save percentage on the season, registering 146 saves and averaging less than a goal allowed a game.
