Timbers2 hosts El Farolito in First Round of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup


PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers2 is set to host El Farolito SC in the First Round of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer announced today. The two sides will face off at Providence Park on March 19 with a 7:30pm PT kickoff.

Tickets to the match will be $10 and general admission only, and will go on sale Tuesday, March 5 here.

T2 will make its first appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup since 2015, when they reached the third round of the tournament. 

El Farolito SC is an amateur team of the National Premier Soccer League based in San Francisco, California, playing their home matches at Boxer Stadium. The team is best known for its 1993 U.S. Open Cup championship under its previous name, Club Deportivo Mexico.

The First Round of the 2024 U.S. Open Cup kicks off with 64 teams and 32 First Round games across the country between March 19 and 21, pitting amateurs from the Open Division and Third Division Professional clubs in direct competition.

The upcoming First Round will mark the first time since 2008 that all matchups will be exclusively contested between amateur and professional teams. The 32 winners of the First Round will play each other in the Second Round of the tournament in early April.
