PORTLAND, Ore. – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Portland Thorns FC today announced that Providence Park will host the 2021 NWSL Championship match presented by Budweiser on Saturday, Nov. 20, kickoff is set for 9 a.m. (Pacific) on CBS.
“We are thrilled to host the 2021 NWSL Championship game at Providence Park,” said Mike Golub, Portland Thorns FC president of business. “This club and community take great pride in highlighting the talent in this league, and we look forward to having another opportunity to showcase our city, our stadium, and the incredible support that has been fostered here for women’s soccer.”
Tickets will be held for fans of both participating teams and be made available once the teams are set.
The newly expanded 2021 playoffs will feature the top six teams at the end of the regular season, with the top two seeds earning a first-round bye to the semifinals. The quarterfinals are set to begin the weekend of Nov. 6-7, while the semifinals will take place the weekend of Nov. 13-14.
Providence Park has hosted two NWSL Championship matches, including the 2018 final between Portland and the North Carolina Courage, which featured the largest crowd for an NWSL Championship match in league history (21,144). The stadium has also played host to the 2015 NWSL Championship match, the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup final and the 2021 Women’s International Champions Cup.
Originally constructed in 1926, Providence Park is an iconic sports and entertainment facility located in the heart of downtown Portland, Ore., that has played host to a variety of sporting events, political gatherings, popular concerts, and some of the region’s most memorable events. The home of Thorns FC, the 2013 and 2017 NWSL Champions, and Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers, underwent a transformation project that began in December 2017, spanning 20 months. The stadium re-launched on June 1, 2019, after extensive renovations, including the addition of 4,000 seats as part of a three-tiered eastside expansion, increasing the capacity to 25,218.
