Thorns FC's Lindsey Horan, Christine Sinclair named to NWSL Team of the Month for May

Two Portland Thorns FC players, midfielder Lindsey Horan and forward Christine Sinclair, lead the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month, presented by Cutter® Insect Repellent, voted by the NWSL Media Association for the month of May of the 2018 NWSL season.


NWSL Team of the Month – May

GK – Abby Smith, Utah Royals FC: Smith made seven saves and earned three shutouts in the month while conceding just two goals in May for the Royals FC.


D – Steph Catley, Seattle Reign FC: Catley started all four matches during the month and registered two assists and eight chances created to help guide the Reign FC to wins over Thorns FC and Sky Blue FC.


D – Abby Erceg, North Carolina Courage: Erceg scored a goal and added an assist for the Courage in May as she started all five games to help them finish May with the top spot in the NWSL standings.


D – Becky Sauerbrunn, Utah Royals FC: Sauerbrunn played every minute of all four games for the Royals FC in May as she contributed to three shutouts and a 0.50 goals-against-average. The defender also made four tackles and three blocks.


D – Ali Krieger, Orlando Pride: Krieger made five appearances (all starts) for Orlando in May recording five chances, six tackles and seven blocks. She also assisted on the game-tying goal to help the Pride to a 5-2 win versus Chicago Red Stars on May 26.


M – Kristie Mewis, Houston Dash: Mewis scored two goals and created nine scoring chances for her teammates in six appearances during May to help the Dash closeout the month on a two-game winning streak.


M – Lindsey Horan, Portland Thorns FC: Horan scored two goals in six appearances as the Thorns FC went 2-3-1 during the month. She registered 21 tackles with 15 tackles won and 18 shots (7 SOG) and six chances created.


M – McCall Zerboni, North Carolina Courage: Zerboni had a goal and an assist while playing every minute during the month. She also recorded 24 tackles – 16 won and created eight chances created in 450 minutes.


F – Rachel Daly, Houston Dash: Daly had four goals in six games for Houston and recorded the first brace of her professional career in a 3-2 victory over the Washington Spirit on May 27.


F – Christine Sinclair, Portland Thorns FC: Sinclair scored two goals and added an assist in six matches during May – including her second game-winning goal of the year when she tallied once for the Thorns in a 2-0 victory over the Utah Royals FC on May 25. She leads the league with six goals on the season.


F – Crystal Dunn, North Carolina Courage: Dunn tallied two goals in four games – including both goals as the Reign rallied for a 2-1 victory against the Red Stars on June 28. On May 22, she was named the NWSL Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2018 season.


The NWSL will return to action Friday, June 8 with Sky Blue FC hosting the Washington Spirit at 7 p.m. ET, while the rest of the league is off during the international break.
