Thorns' World Cup champions honored by Portland City Council at city hall

Thorns FC 2019 City of Portland Proclamation, 07.31.19

For the Thorns players on the U.S. Women’s National Team, they have spent the past few months in the spotlight, drawing attention from casual newcomers to the soccer world to diehard supporters, from parades in downtown New York to appearances on late night TV and the ESPYs. All eyes have been on the team.

Today was the City of Portland’s turn to honor our four World Cup Champions. At City Hall, Adrianna Franch, Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan and Emily Sonnett were recognized by Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who swapped his suit jacket for a home Thorns kit, for their success on the world stage.

Mayor Wheeler acknowledged our Thorns’ respective roles helping the USWNT win a second consecutive World Cup and for being ambassadors for and members of a club that has set attendance and viewership records across all of women’s professional sport.

In turn, Mayor Wheeler and Portland City Council issued our Thorns the highest level of praise by publicly declaring July 2019 to be Portland Thorns FC Month.
