Portland Timbers Academy defender Sawyer Jura saw action in the second-annual MLS NEXT All-Star Game held Wednesday at the Naval Academy’s Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md., helping the West Team to victory.
One of 22 players on the West, Jura started for head coach and former MLS All-Star Taylor Twellman and played the opening 45 minutes. The East vs. West game was played with different XIs in each half allowing all players an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The East took a 2-0 lead at halftime, before the West evened up the scoreline by the final whistle. And the West was perfect from the spot in a penalty kick shootout to claim the win.
"I was super grateful to represent Soccer City, USA, and I'm really excited to get back home and back to work with Portland," Jura said.
