Here are the nominees for the Timbers Goal of the Year:
1.) April 21 vs. Puerto Rico: Forward
Chris Brown
put the Timbers on the board in the 71st minute and it would prove to be the game-winner in a 1-0 final on opening night at PGE Park. It would also be the final log slice cut by long-time team icon “Timber” Jim Serrill as the Timbers celebrated his retirement and final night as mascot.
2.) April 26 vs. Seattle Sounders: Forward
Takayuki Suzuki
gave the Timbers the lead with an early long-range shot in the sixth minute. Suzuki, surrounded by five white shirts at the top right corner of the box, unloaded a 25-yard shot that sailed inside the top left corner. His strike would help the Timbers build a 2-0 win over their Northwest rivals at PGE Park and earned the league’s Goal of the Week award.
3.) June 12 vs. Atlanta Silverbacks: Forward
Chris Bagley
helped the Timbers build an early advantage by beating defender Matt Bobo to a ball played over the top. He knocked Bobo off the ball and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh from the top of the box for his first goal of the season. In the end, the two sides battled to a 2-2 draw at PGE Park.
4.) Aug. 16 vs. Montreal Impact: Forward
Bryan Jordan
led the Timbers to a 2-1 win over the Impact at PGE Park. Jordan put the home side on the board early in the second half when he finished a long ball played into the box by defender Scot Thompson. With a quick move, Jordan created space inside the box, out-jumped his defender and then headed in the go-ahead goal inside the near post.
5.) Sept. 4 vs. Miami FC Blues: Forward
Byron Alvarez
opened the scoring with a well-timed header in the Timbers’ 4-0 win over Miami FC on Sept. 4 at PGE Park. In the third minute, Alvarez connected on a Scot Thompson cross from the right side near the penalty spot. He poked the ball back inside the right post past former teammate and Miami FC goalkeeper Josh Saunders to nab the league’s Goal of the Week honor.
