The Portland Timbers wrap up a two-game road trip against the Miami FC Blues and conclude their road schedule for the month of July today in Miami, Fla. With a 1-1 draw against the Blues Friday, the Timbers extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games, matching the USL First Division’s record for the longest, single-season unbeaten streak; the Montreal Impact set the mark in 2005.
On Friday, the Timbers rallied to a 1-1 draw on a second-half goal by defender
David Hayes
to earn a 1-1 draw with the Blues. Friday’s contest marked the first time this season that the Timbers entered halftime on the losing end of the scoreboard after Miami struck in the first half, and marked just the fourth time this season that Portland trailed in a regular-season match.
The Timbers currently sit in a two-way tie for second place in the USL First Division table with the Puerto Rico Islanders; Charleston recorded a pair of road draws this weekend and currently own the top spot on the table at 32 points. Puerto Rico travels to face Montreal today at 12:45 p.m. (Pacific).
Portland’s offense, led by the league’s leading scorer in
Mandjou Keita
, continues to pace the USL First Division with 24 goals. The Timbers’ backline also ranks among the best in the league, allowing just nine goals - the second fewest in the USL First Division.
The Timbers are 3-3-2 all-time against the Miami FC Blues. Last season, Portland and Miami split the season series, 1-1-1, including a scoreless draw in Miami. Portland recorded its only win in Miami on Aug. 25, 2007, receiving a game-winning strike from defender
Scot Thompson
in the 74th minute. The 2009 season marks the first time the Timbers have played twice in Miami in a single season. The two sides complete their regular-season series on Aug. 22 in the Rose City.
