Gisele Currier: True Supporter Forever More

Gisele

Gisele.

The name in Timbers supporters-lore conjures up many a memory and many a story. She was there in the NASL days. She was there in the USL days. And we all know she was there on April 14 for the dawn of the MLS days.

She gave away Timbers Army scarves to new fans. She made soccer-themed baby blankets for fellow supporters. She was a calm and welcoming presence amidst all the Timbers Army excitement. Ask around Section 107 about who Gisele was and what she meant to people and you’re likely to hear a host of warm memories many of which involve her famous hugs.

Gisele always sat at the top of Section 107 next to an empty chair—saved in memory for her late sister who was also a great Timbers fan—and she cheered for her boys to no end.

You may not have known her, but probably passed her smiling friendly face at many a match. She was, as former Timbers player and current general manager and technical director Gavin Wilkinson put it, “definitely ever-present and one of the most supportive fans I've come across. She was always delighted to be a part of it.”

Sadly, Gisele Currier left us last night. And we all miss her.

"The Timbers are saddened by the passing of Gisele, one of the most supportive and loyal fans a team could ever imagine," team owner Merritt Paulson said in a statement. "The team meant the world to her—I cannot remember a game or Timbers-related event that Gisele did not attend—and our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and fellow supporters."

Gisele Currier:  True supporter forever more.
