CenturyLink Man of the Match @ Houston: Jack Jewsbury

MOTM @ Houston, Jack Jewsbury

The Portland Timbers were unable to overcome two first-half goals, including a 17th-minute strike by former Timbers midfielder Adam Moffat, in a 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo on Sunday at Robertson Stadium. Portland's final chances in the waning minutes fell off-target as the team lost for the second time in its past six matches.

Captain Jack Jewsbury, returning to the starting lineup after missing the past two games with a hamstring strain, helped spark the Timbers' offense in the second half after finishing off a nice passing combination from midfielders Sal Zizzo and Darlington Nagbe. Jewsbury cut the deficit to one in the 56th minute after Zizzo's cross into the box was headed to the top by Nagbe. Jewsbury hit a bouncing shot that beat Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall to the right side. The goal was Jewsbury's team-leading seventh of the season and with just more than 70 percent of the vote, Jack Jewsbury earns the CenturyLink Man of the Match honor.
