Portland's Multnomah County Library beats back Seattle in Cascadia #Bookmatch clash | The Backcut

Multnomah County Library contest

In a heated and fun rivalry competition between the Multnomah County Library in Portland and the Seattle Public Library in Washington, Timbers fans helped propel Portland to victory.

Set up as a #Bookmatch to see which library could answer the most book recommendation queries on Twitter over the course of ninety minutes yesterday afternoon, Portland fans pulled through 206-195.

Fans and book lovers were encouraged to tweet @MultCoLib on Twitter with a book they enjoyed with a request for a similar recommendation from the library. Using #PDXreads for Portland and @SPLBuzz's#SEAreads for Seattle, each recommendation provided by the respective library system counted as a goal in the battle. From Hemingway to Galeano to Wilson to Kuper to Wahl, book ideas across literature and soccer flew across the Twittersphere faster than a Darlington Nagbe wondergoal.

As loser, the Seattle Public Library must now create a display in their space about Portland with their staff also wearing Timbers gear. A Facebook post with photos will be proof and we'll be sure to share it once it's published.

Now that the question of most literate fan base has been settled, be sure to watch the Timbers and Sounders battle on the Providence Park pitch tomorrow at high noon on NBCSN.
