Rodney Wallace #2, Timbers vs. Chivas, 8.9.14

The Portland Timbers went down to the Bay Area looking to stay in the race for the fifth and final MLS Cup Playoff spot in an important game against the San Jose Earthquakes. While the first half saw the majority of possession go the Timbers' way, it ended in a 0-0 draw.

The second half got rolling though with the Quakes' Chris Wondolowski getting the home side on the board in the 56th minute. Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts made the initial save point blank but Wondolowski punched in the rebound.

But the Timbers kept pressing forward. After pushing the play into the San Jose end, Rodney Wallace received the ball in the box from Alvas Powell on the wing. Wallace Cruyff'd the ball back to himself and then with a turnaround chip, found the upper corner of the San Jose net and a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute.

Three minutes later, Portland's Gastón Fernández served in a great corner kick that defender Liam Ridgewell headed towards goal. The ball deflected off of Wallace and past SJ keeper Jon Busch for a  2-1 Timbers lead.
