Fanendo Adi 1, Media Day 2016

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced that the club has signed forward Fanendo Adi to a contract extension using Targeted Allocation Money.

The Timbers leading goal-scorer during their MLS era, Adi, 25, has scored 26 goals for Portland since joining the club midway through the 2014 campaign. His 26 finishes, which rank seventh all time for Portland across all eras (since 1975), are tied for the fifth most in MLS during that timespan. Additionally, Adi has tallied seven assists with Portland, ranking 11th in points (59) for the Timbers across all eras.

In 2015, Adi notched 16 goals, setting the Timbers MLS-club record for single-season scoring and multi-goal performances (5), including braces against the LA Galaxy (March 15 and Oct. 18), Columbus Crew SC (Sept. 26), Seattle Sounders FC (June 28) and the New England Revolution (June 6).

The forward, who logged 2,161 minutes in 33 regular-season games (23 starts) last season, played every minute during Portland’s 2015 MLS Cup playoff run, scoring twice in the postseason as the Timbers went on to win 2015 MLS Cup. Adi found the back of the net in Portland’s 2-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals, while also scoring in the second leg of the Western Conference Championship against FC Dallas.

The Portland Timbers will return to Providence Park on Saturday, March 19, to take Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific). The match will be broadcast live on KPTV with a radio broadcast on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (KXTG) and in Spanish on La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (KGDD).
