PORTLAND, Ore. - Playing their final match at Providence Park this season, the Timbers U-23s battled Lane United FC to a 3-3 draw in front of 5,128 fans on Providence Health & Fitness Day on Tuesday afternoon.
The Timbers U-23s (0-1-2, 2pts) built a 2-0 lead in the first half behind a brace from midfielder Tim Mueller. Mueller, who has recorded three goals in the last two matches, opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he placed his left-footed strike into the far side netting. In the 45th minute, Mueller quickly pounced on a loose ball in the box before firing his shot into the back of the net.
Early in the second half, Lane United FC (1-0-3, 6pts) pulled a goal back through midfielder Isma Fernandez, who reacted quickly to poke the ball past goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm in the 49th minute. Four minutes later, midfielder Vicente Mora leveled the score when he converted his snap header in the box in the 54th minute.
Portland regained the lead in the 55th minute as forward Jordan Jones muscled past an oncoming United FC defender in the box and delivered a right-footed strike to give the Timbers U-23s a 3-2 lead.
In the second minute of second-half stoppage time, United FC leveled the score again when second-half substitute Daley Stevens converted a header in front of goal.
Next up, Portland will hit the road to play two games, facing Calgary Foothills FC on Friday, May 27 at 6 p.m. (Pacific), and Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m. (Pacific).
