USL PDL MATCH PREVIEW | Portland Timbers U-23s play on the road against Lane United FC Wednesday

U-23s vs. Lane United, 5.24.16

The Timbers U-23s return to 2016 PDL regular-season action on Wednesday, June 29, as they travel to play Lane United FC at Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific).

The Timbers U-23s (1-6-3, 6pts) enter this week’s road match looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Seattle Sounders FC U-23 at Doc Harris Stadium on June 25. After a scoreless first half in which the Timbers U-23s held a 9-6 advantage on shots, Portland took the lead in the 52nd minute from a corner kick. Defender Peter Prescott got on the end of the delivery as his shot from close range hit the post and midfielder Jordan Jones collected the rebound, placing his shot into the top corner of the goal.

Seattle then leveled the score in the 71st minute as midfielder Adam Jones sent in a floated ball into the box to forward Guillermo Delgado, who sent a side-footed shot past Portland goalkeeper Andrew Konstantino. The opponents notched the game-winning goal in the 90th minute after midfielder Brendan Zambrano found Jones in space inside the box and Jones delivered a powerful strike into the back of the net to give Seattle the 2-1 win.

Lane United FC (3-2-4, 13pts) will play their 10th game of the 2016 PDL campaign after losing 1-0 to Calgary Foothills FC on June 17. In the first meeting between the two sides this season, United FC defeated Portland 1-0 on May 7 at Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. In the second meeting between the two clubs this season, Portland and United FC played to a 3-3 draw at Providence Park on May 24. LUFC's roster consists of 23 college players, including four from Oregon State, four from Creighton University and two from the University of Portland.

Next up, Portland will play their second straight match on the road against Kitsap Pumas at Gordon Field on Wednesday, July 6; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific).
