Thorns FC return to play this weekend with a shot at capturing the club's first-ever NWSL Shield as they travel east to play Sky Blue FC Sunday (4pm PT, WEBSTREAM).

But a number of Thorns FC players were in action over the past week with their respective national teams as they played international matches all over the world.

In an emotional farewell match to U.S. Women's National Team stalwart Heather O'Reilly, the USWNT blanked Thailand 9-0 last Thursday in Columbus, Ohio. Thorns FC's Allie Long and Tobin Heath both started and played the first 45 minutes with Meghan Klingenberg, Emily Sonnett and Lindsey Horan all seeing the field for the second half.

Heath had a nifty goal in the 36th minute while Horan provided an assist to Carly Lloyd's hat-trick goal in the 81st minute.

Four days later, the USWNT scored two second half goals to beat The Netherlands 3-1 in Atlanta, GA. Klingenberg, Long, Horan and Heath all started this match while Georgia-native Sonnett came on for the second half. Heath picked up another assist--her seventh of the year with the national team--while Long scored the U.S.'s final goal in the 77th minute.

Across the pond, forward Nadia Nadim and Denmark clinched a spot in the Women's Euro 2017 tournament with a 2-0 win over Sweden. Nadim scored in the 47th minute to help sew up the win. Nadim had a brace for Denmark earlier in the week with a 5-0 qualifier win over Moldova as well.

Dagny Brynjarsdottir played with Iceland twice last week with the midfielder picking up a brace in Iceland's 4-0 Women's Euro 2017 qualifier victory over Slovenia on Sept. 16 that also clinched a spot in the European finals. Brynjarsdottir also started and played the full 90 as Iceland lost 2-1 to Scotland in their second qualifier of the week.

Finally, midfielder Amandine Henry captained France in a friendly 1-1 draw with Brazil in Grenoble.
