
Guillermo "Memo" Valencia | Goalkeeping Coach
Guillermo “Memo” Valencia is in his ninth season with the Timbers after joining the coaching staff in 2018. Valencia has helped the club earn two Western Conference Championships and two MLS Cup appearances (2018, 2021), six postseason appearances (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2025, 2025) and won the MLS Is Back Tournament in 2020.
Valencia arrived in Portland after spending five seasons as the goalkeeper coach for the New York Cosmos (2013-17), helping the team win three NASL Soccer Bowl championships.
Valencia most recently earned his UEFA Goalkeeping B license and maintains USSF goalkeeping and “A” licenses. He has coached goalkeepers for the U.S. Men’s National Team between the U-17 and U-23 levels since 2009.
During his 11-year professional playing career as a goalkeeper in Colombia, Valencia played for America de Cali (1990-1995) and Deportivo Pereira (1995-2001), featuring as a key member of the Pereira side that won the Professional Colombian Soccer Association league championship. Valencia later moved to the United States to compete for the Westchester Flames and the Long Island Rough Riders.
