Academy Update | Back from Generation adidas Cup, U-16s and U-18s in action at adidas Timbers Training Center

Returning to Portland after featuring in the opening round of the 2016-17 Generation adidas Cup last weekend, the Timbers U-16 Academy team played host to the San Jose Earthquakes U-16 side at the adidas Timbers Training Center on Saturday, before facing Juventus Sport Club’s U-16 team on the following day. In their opening match of the weekend, the U-16s fell to San Jose 2-1, with Giovanni Calixtro scoring his first goal of the season, before producing a 2-0 win over Juventus on Sunday afternoon. Bryan Martinez-Serrano scored a brace in the 2-0 win against Juventus, extending his tally to five goals on the season as the U-16s recorded their second win of the campaign. 
The U-18s faced Juventus on Sunday, falling 3-2 at the adidas Timbers Training Center. Lucas Cini scored his second goal of the season, while Jacob Montes notched his first goal of the season.  
Next up, the Timbers U-16s and U-18s will play host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s U-16 and U-18 teams at the adidas Timbers Training Center on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 2 p.m. (Pacific).

Also, Timbers U-16s player Adrian Villegas received a call-up from U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach John Hackworth to the 2016 Fall Semester of the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida.

With supporting partners adidas and McDonald’s, the Soccer Celebration will feature interactive activities, local food carts, merchandise stands, fan giveaways as well as live viewings of select FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, all taking place in “Portland’s living room” from June 12-June 15. The events are free to attend for fans of all ages.
