Academy Update | Three games and three wins for Timbers U-16s, U-18s

The Timbers U-16 and U-18 Academy teams picked up three wins in three games played this weekend, with both teams facing Santa Cruz Breakers Academy and De Anza Force on the road.


The U-16s opened its weekend fixtures with a 2-1 win against Santa Cruz Breakers Academy on Saturday, March 18. Following an opening finish from Santa Cruz in the fourth minute, the U-16s scored a pair of unanswered goals, with Alan Gaytan and Coby Atkinson each finishing for the U-16s. In the second fixture of the weekend, the U-16s kept a shutout against DeAnza Force, defeating the home side 2-0 behind goals from Max Elliott and Nicholas Scardina.


In the U-18s lone match of the weekend, the team defeated Santa Cruz 3-1 on the road, with three different players scoring for the Timbers. Portland opened the scoring through Wilterlynd Inalien in the 29th minute, before doubling its lead in the 42nd minute when Giovanni Calixtro found the back of the net. The Timbers extended their lead to three goals in the 70th minute when Lucas Cini recorded the team’s final goal of the game.


The Timbers U-16 and U-18 Academy teams will return to Portland on Saturday, April 1, playing host to Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
