Returning to league play for the first time since April 1, the Timbers U-16 and U-18 Academy teams went unbeaten in both of their home matches against De Anza Force and the Santa Cruz Breakers this past weekend.
The U-16s, who won both of their games, scored seven goals across both contests, while managing to keep their opponents to just one goal scored. Behind a brace from Bryan Martinez-Serrano, the U-16s opened the weekend with a 2-0 win over De Anza Force, before producing a convincing 5-1 victory over the Santa Cruz Breakers. Four different players scored in the win for the Timbers U-16s, with Bryan Martinez-Serrano recording a brace, while Loic Baures, Alan Gaytan and Brendan Herb each scored one goal.
Portland’s U-18s battled De Anza Force to a 3-3 draw in and back-and-forth affair on Saturday. Three different players scored for the Timbers, with Carlos Anguiano, Lucas Cini and Giovanni Calixtro each finding the back of the net. Calixtro opened the scoring in the game, finishing in the 33rd minute, before Anguiano struck in the 37th minute to double the Timbers lead. Following back-to-back goals from De Anza Force in the 52nd and 54th minutes, Cini gave Portland the lead in the 68th minute, but a late strike from De Anza leveled the scoreline in the 75th minute, resulting in a 3-3 draw. On Sunday, the Timbers rebounded with a strong 3-0 win over Santa Cruz, scoring all three goals in a seven-minute span. Vitalis Takawira scored the game’s first goal in the 43rd minute, while Jacob Montes managed to double Portland’s lead in the 45th minute. Four minutes into the second half, Carlos Anguiano scored the third and final goal of the match, providing the Timbers with a 3-0 win to round out the weekend.
