Lucas Cini, Timbers Academy vs. Sounders FC Academy, 09.30.17

The Portland Timbers U-19 Academy picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, setting the tone for a weekend in with each Timbers Academy team in action earned a result.

The Timbers U-19s (5-3-1, 16pts) opened the weekend with a 2-1 win against De Anza Force U-19s on Oct. 28. The team’s top two scorers – Lucas Cini (pictured) and Will Inalien – provided the scoring. Cini scored the first of his five goals on the weekend in the 30th minute. Inalien tallied the eventual game-winner – his fifth goal of the season – just nine minutes later.

On Oct. 29, the Timbers U-19s earned a third straight win, defeating the Santa Cruz Breakers Academy, 5-0. John Klein got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net in the seventh minute. Cini then broke the match open with four goals of his own, scoring in the 16th, 41st, 77th and 80th minutes. He now has nine goals on the 2017-18 campaign.

The Timbers U-17s (4-5-0, 12pts) split their results over the weekend, earning a 3-1 win against De Anza Force on Oct. 28 and then suffered a 1-0 loss to Santa Cruz Breakers Academy on Oct. 29.

A brace from Nicholas Scardina helped the Timbers U-17s to their win against De Anza. His goals in the 33rd and 77th minute doubled his goals total to four this season. Anthony Kaskie scored in the 90th minute to seal the team’s third straight win in league play.

It was a second half goal by Santa Cruz that handed the Timbers U-17s its first loss in month of October across all competitions.

The Timbers U-15s (2-4-2, 8pts) split their results on the weekend. After a 1-0 loss to De Anza Force on Oct. 28, the team turned things around and picked up a 3-0 win against the Santa Cruze Breakers Academy on Oct. 29. Tommy Musto, Jeremy Ross and Andrew Saucedo all scored in the win, while goalkeeper Stuart Heringer anchored the backline in the clean sheet.

The Timbers U-14 Academy finished level, 2-2, with Seattle United U-14s on the road in Seattle, Wash., on Oct. 28. Tyson Nguyen opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with his first goal of the season. Kyle McGowan notched the equalizer in the 56th minute – his third goal on the season. The road result extended the Timbers U-14s unbeaten streak to four games.
