Brett Jacobs joins Timbers U-23s as Head Coach

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s have named Brett Jacobs as the team’s head coach. Jacobs currently serves a dual role as head men’s soccer coach at Clark College and technical director of alliance club Washington Timbers.  

A national staff coach for U.S. Soccer since 2005, Jacobs has over 25 years of domestic and international coaching experience at both the youth and professional levels. Prior to his arrival in Oregon, Jacobs spent four years as an assistant coach with the Colorado Rapids (2009-12), also serving as the reserve team head coach during his tenure with the 2010 MLS Cup champions.

Prior to joining the Rapids, Jacobs served as the technical director for the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (2005-07). While in Michigan, Jacobs served as an assistant coach for the Michigan Bucks of PDL (2005-07), helping lead the club to back-to-back National Championship matches in 2006 and 2007. Jacobs is one of the first American coaches to work in the English Premier Academy League, coaching full-time for Wimbledon FC (now MK Dons) from 2002-04. Prior to his time in England, Jacobs was an assistant technical director with the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (1998-2001). He holds a U.S. Soccer A license, UEFA B license, NSCAA Premiere diploma and is currently pursuing the UEFA A License.

Jacobs, a Timbers radio analyst since 2013, spent 11 years playing professionally in the United States and England with Mobile FC of USISL Division 2 (1993-95), Cape Cod (1996-2001) of PDL, Fleet Town F.C. (2001-02) and Kingstonian Football Club (2002-04) of the Isthmian League. 

Jacobs played NCAA Division I soccer at the University of South Alabama from 1989-91, and earned a degree in Telecommunications. Brett and his wife, Jennifer, live in Vancouver, Wash., with their sons, Finn and Jett.
