In the 100th all-time meeting between the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Portland earned a 3-2 victory on the strength of goals from Dairon Asprilla, Jaroslaw Niezgoda and Yimmi Chara plus a gutsy penalty kick save from goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic. Here are three numbers to remember from the match.
Last week, midfielder Diego Chara tied Kyle Beckerman for the all-time lead in league history for fouls committed in regular season play with 756. Despite needing only one more to break the record, Chara had zero fouls against the Whitecaps. It is only the 30th regular season game in his 317 career appearances where Chara was not credited with a foul.
With his penalty kick goal tonight, Dairon Asprilla extended a personal streak. The Colombian forward has stepped to the penalty spot five times in his regular-season career in and has converted all five attempts.
Over Vancouver’s last 12 home regular-season matches at BC Place, they have a record of 8-2-2. Those only two losses have both come against the Timbers.
