PORTLAND, Ore.
– United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers defender
David Hayes
and forward
George Josten
were selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 11.
Hayes and Josten each logged a goal and an assist to lead the Timbers to a 5-1 win over the Minnesota Thunder on June 19 at PGE Park. The win extended the Timbers’ unbeaten streak to 11 matches, setting a new modern-franchise record.
It’s the second USL First Division Team of the Week selection this season for both players.
Hayes, 33, scored his first goal of the season in the match against Minnesota, converting a penalty kick in the 64th minute. The 11-year veteran currently ranks among team leaders in games (12) and minutes played (1,079) this season.
Josten, 23, logged his goal and assist against Minnesota in the first half, giving Portland a 2-1 lead at halftime. With his performance against the Thunder, Josten doubled his season totals to two goals and two assists in 10 games this season.
The Timbers play host to the Montreal Impact on Sunday at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader at PGE Park. The Timbers U-23s open Sunday with a game against the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency at 1 p.m. Tickets are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at
