MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 2, Colorado Rapids 2

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers, playing with 10 men for the final 35 minutes of the match, earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids in front of a sold-out crowd Saturday night at Providence Park. Diego Valeri scored his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

Match Moments

18' - SAVE (POR) - After discovering some space near the edge of the Timbers 18-yard box, Colorado forward Kei Kamara spun and fired a low shot that Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark sprung to his left to get a hand to. The ball deflected off him then off the post and away.

20' - CHANCE (POR) - Down the other way of the field, Timbers striker Jeremy Ebobisse received a ball from Sebastían Blanco in the box and hit a shot towards the near post that Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard saved.

27' - OWN GOAL (POR) - On a Portland corner kick in the north end, Diego Valeri served a ball into the mixer that Rapids defender Tommy Smith jumped trying to head away but ended up knocking into his own net for a 1-0 Portland lead.

28' - GOAL (COL) - On the ensuing kickoff, Colorado equalized as Rapids midfielder Jonathan Lewis fired a shot from the left side past Clark to make the score 1-1.

30' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland stayed on the front foot as Blanco cut in from the right side with a lofted shot that Howard leapt high to tip over the bar with one hand.

44' - DOUBLE SAVE (POR) - As the Rapids broke out on a counter, Lewis came down the left side before sliding a ball to Andre Shinyashiki whose one-timed shot was saved by a diving Clark who deflected it off the post and away. Shinyashiki recovered the ball and chipped a cross in that Kamara headed on frame from a point-blank distance but Clark again came up big to deny the visitors.

45 - SAVE (POR) - Kamara again tried from just inside the 18-yard box with a left-footed shot that Clark again palmed away.

55' - RED CARD (POR) - Portland went down to ten men as defender Julio Cascante was shown a straight red card from referee Kevin Stott for a foul on Kamara near midfield.

63' - GOAL - PK - (POR) - In the 62nd minute, Stott pointed to the spot calling a handball against Colorado defender Lalas Abubakar in the box. Valeri stepped to the spot and coolly dispatched his spot kick past Howard who had guessed the wrong direction. The goal gave Portland a 2-1 lead.

72' - SAVE (POR) - Colorado's Diego Rubio sprinted in on goal. Clark came off his line and got a hand to the ball to make a great save.

76' - GOAL (COL) - Rapids midfielder Sam Nicholson took a long pass over the top on the right side, cut towards goal and scored a goal from the edge of the area to even the game at 2-2.
