PORTLAND, Ore. – The Timbers won their second match in a row as they handed New York City FC their first loss of the season in a 3-0 Portland Victory at Providence Park Sunday afternoon.

Portland was lead by first half goals from Sebastián Blanco– his team-leading fourth of the season – and Fanendo Adi as well as a second half strike by defender Larrys Mabiala It was the first goal of his Mabiala's MLS career. Portland goalkeeper made Jeff Attinella made three saves while the Timbers picked up their first clean sheet of the year.

5' - CHANCE (POR): Portland worked the ball expertly around the edges of the New York box. A chip from Andrés Flores found Sebastián Blanco on the back post but his shot rolled wide left of the post.

14' - CHANCE (POR): Defender Alvas Powell, sprung on a throughball from Flores, cut a chipped ball back across the face of goal. Blanco passed it to Diego Valeri near the penalty spot and his shot pinged around the mixer before deflecting wide.

26' - GOAL (POR): On a Timbers throw-in, the ball came to Flores who sent a high cross to the far left post where it was met by Blanco. His leaping header looped up and over NYC goalkeeper Sean Johnson before settling into the far corner of the net for a 1-0 Portland lead. It was Blanco's team-leading fourth goal of 2018.

38' - GOAL (POR): Blanco forced a turnover at midfield and sent the Timbers on the break with Diego Chara. Chara sprayed the ball out right to Valeri who threaded a skipping ball that Johnson parried away but right to Fanendo Adi at the back post who tapped it in for a 2-0 Portland lead.

58' - SAVE (POR): Jeff Attinella raced off his line to smother a ball from Jo Inge Berget as he and David Villa bore down on goal.

66' - GOAL (POR): Timbers defender Larrys Mabiala made it 3-0 for Portland when he connected on a perfect corner kick service from Valeri. Mabiala, right atop the six-yard box, leapt up uncontested to snap a header into the bottom right corner for his first goal his Portland career.

89' - STOP (POR): Faced with a 1v1 situation, Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell stood his ground against the on-rushing Villa at the edge of the 18-yard box. Ridgewell managed to poke the ball away while the rest of his defense recovered and cleared the ball to safety.

The Portland Timbers have a bye next weekend before returning to play the San Jose Earthquakes on May 5 at Avaya Stadium (7:30pm PT, FOX 12 Oregon).
