The Storyline
Portland Timbers (6th, 6-4-5, 23pts) vs Colorado Rapids (7th, 6-5-4, 22pts)
The Timbers have reached the end of a busy month of May. With thousands of miles traveled, Portland returns to the comfort of Providence Park where they have not lost since the season opener over three months ago. Following two wins, three losses, and two ties this month accross all competitions, the Green & Gold shift their focus to getting back up the Western Conference standings as the season halfway point looms.
After battling through seven matches in 21 days, Portland has one final challenge standing in their way before closing out the busy month: Colorado Rapids.
Colorado have had quite the rollercoaster of a month. They started May off with three-straight losses before turning on a switch and churning out two-straight 1-0 wins leading up to Wednesday's match. Colorado will be looking to finish out the month at .500 with a win in Goose Hollow. The Rapids' Designated Players continue to lead the way offensively, as Djordje Mihailovic has six goals and three assists while Rafael Navarro has five goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Nico Hansen has been in goal in their last two matches, recording back-to-back shutouts.
