Matchcenter

The Opponent: D.C. United (2nd, 1-0-0, 3pts)

Much like Portland, D.C. comes into Saturday riding the high of a spectacular season opening victory. Propelled by their star striker Christian Benteke and his hat-trick performance, the Black-and-Red started off the season with a dominant 3-1 result over New England, good enough for second in the Eastern Conference. In control for much of the encounter, D.C. outshot their opponents 30 to 10 and maintained possession throughout the 90 minutes of play, snagging all three points under the helm of assistant coach Zach Prince. Head coach Troy Lesesne will be making his sidelines debut Saturday against the Green & Gold following a one-match suspension.

Historically

Timbers and D.C. face-off for the 11th time in MLS regular-season action. At four wins each, and two draws, the series is looking for a tiebreaker this Saturday. If history is any indicator, then Saturday's match could be a high-scoring affair. The clubs are averaging nearly three goals scored per match when facing one another and both are coming off of 3+ goals scored wins.
