After a thrilling victory over Real Salt Lake in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs Wild Card Game, the Portland Timbers begin the Round One Best-of-3 Series against San Diego FC on Sunday with Game 1 at Snapdragon Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 6:30pm PT and can be seen on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
How the Round One Best-of-3 Series Works
- The three-game series features a home-away-home format. As the higher seed, San Diego FC will play host to Game 3, if necessary.
- Every Round One game will have a winner – no draws, no aggregate score. If a match is tied at the end of 90 minutes, clubs will participate in a penalty kick shootout to determine the winner – no extra time will be played.
- First club to win two games in the series advances to the Western Conference Semifinals.

The Storyline
The Portland Timbers and expansion-side San Diego FC will meet for the third time in history, and first in the postseason as the two matchup in the Western Conference Round One Best-of-3 Series.
The two first faced-off at Snapdragon Stadium on Aug. 23 in a 0-0 road shutout tie. On Oct. 18, Portland hosted San Diego for the first time in a 4-0 loss to close the 2025 regular season.
San Diego FC enter the series as the higher seed and will host Game 1 against the TImbers on Oct. 26, as well as Game 3 on Nov. 9, if necessary. Portland will host San Diego on Nov. 1 in their final match at Providence Park in 2025.
