The Storyline
The Portland Timbers (10-9-7, 37pts) enter Matchday 30 in sixth place of the Western Conference. With eight matches to go before the end of the current campaign, Portland will face four playoff-positioned clubs en route to Decision Day 2025, starting Saturday at San Diego FC.
Portland will face expansion-side San Diego FC for the first time in franchise history. When playing expansion sides for the first time, the Timbers have a record of 6-6-1 since joining MLS in 2011.
San Diego FC enter Matchday 30 as the Supporters' Shield leaders with just eight matchweeks to go. Sitting atop the standings with 52 points (16-7-4) from 27 games played, San Diego FC sees the summit on goal differential with Eastern Conference leader FC Cincinnati after both clubs are even on points and wins on the season.
San Diego FC are one victory away from tying the MLS expansion record for wins (17 by St. Louis CITY SC in 2023) and five points off the expansion points record (57 by LAFC in 2018).
