PORTLAND, Ore.
– With the start of the 2009 U.S. Open Cup around the corner, U.S. Soccer announced late Friday the various scenarios for the second round of the tournament. The Timbers face the Kitsap Pumas on Tuesday in the first round.
On Tuesday, the Timbers travel to face Kitsap of the Premier Development League in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup in Bremerton, Wash., at 7 p.m.
The second round will take place Tuesday, June 16, and will feature all 16 first-round winners.
Should Portland, who competes in the tournament’s Regional Group 8, advance to the second round, it will travel to face either the Sonoma County Sol of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association or Orange County Blue Star of the PDL.
The second-round winners will face the eight qualified clubs from Major League Soccer, who enter the tournament in the third round.
