Portland and Colorado pick up play in 46th minute, tied at 0-0, with same players and bench as July 4

Editor's Note: With the July 4 match having been postponed due to inclement weather, the Timbers and Rapids now pick up where they left off, with a rescheduled continuation of the game on July 12 in the 46th minute at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Teams will have the same players on the field and bench as before, however, in Colorado's case, they had a match last weekend – a 2-1 win over FC Dallas. This article has been updated to reflect the current stat of both teams.

Portland sits in 12th place in the Western Conference (5-9-7, 22pts), but only three points below the playoff line. Colorado's 2-1 victory over FC Dallas in the interim was their third of the season and first at home. However, the Rapids still sit in 14th and last place in the Western Conference with a 3-10-8 record (17pts).

The match can be seen on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Per league rules, the match will restart with the same players on the field and substitutes available as when the match was initially postponed. Play will resume in the 46th minute after being halted at halftime on July 4 with the score 0-0.

Here are some numbers to know as the Timbers battle the Rapids:

July 4

Tuesday marked Portland's third-ever match on July 4 – and first that was ever postponed on the holiday. In their MLS era, the Timbers have played only two other July 4 matches. The first was a come-from-behind, 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy in 2014. Their most recent Independence Day match was 2016 which was a 0-0 draw with Colorado.

July 4, Part 2

This was the 26th time in 28 MLS seasons that the Rapids had hosted a match on Independence Day, only not doing so in 2011 and 2020. Colorado has won only three of their last 14 Independence Games (D5, L6), going winless in their last six.

2

The July 4 postponement marked Portland's second weather-delayed match of the year, the first being the Timbers' home opener against Sporting Kansas City. Scheduled for Feb. 25, the match was moved to Feb. 27 at Providence Park due to a massive snow storm.

4

In his last match on July 2 against Minnesota, midfielder Diego Chara registered his fourth assist of the season, the second most on the team, trailing only Santiago Moreno (6). It marks the fourth time Chara has tallied four or more assists for the Timbers in his 13-year career in Portland (2023, 2020, 2014, 2011).

9

Against Minnesota, forward Nathan Fogaça tallied his second assist of the season, becoming the ninth player to record multiple assists for the club in 2023.
