Portland Timbers and Stand Together set for Score A Goal, Plant A Tree this Saturday

Sal Zizzo, Friends of Trees, 3.30.13

The Portland Timbers Stand Together community outreach program will be in high gear this Saturday as they partner with Timbers Army volunteers, Timber Joey, front office staff and Friends of Trees for the annual Score A Goal, Plant A Tree event.

Presented by JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, the program plants trees across the Portland community for every goal scored during the Timbers season.
Since their inaugural MLS season in 2011, the Timbers have expanded the program to plant over 2,000 trees. These plants absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 96,000 pounds a year, remove 360,000 pounds of pollutants each year and intercept 4,760,000 gallons of storm water runoff to keep our rivers clean. The program is part of the club's commitment towards creating a more sustainable environment.
This year, the planting will take place in the
Brentwood-Darlington, Mt. Scott-Arleta, Woodstock, Brooklyn, Sellwood-Moreland & Eastmoreland neighborhoods
 as well as the
Buckman, Hosford-Abernethy & Richmond neighborhoods
. Volunteers are welcome to come celebrate the season alongside other Timbers supporters this Saturday at 9am PT.
