PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers defender Alvas Powell and forward Michael Seaton were named to the Jamaica Men’s National Team roster for a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nicaragua.
The Reggae Boyz will play host to Nicaragua on Friday, Sept. 4, at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica, in the first leg of two 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central American nation. Jamaica will travel to face Nicaragua in the second leg at Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Managua, Nicaragua. The winner of the two-game series will advance to CONCACAF’s fourth round of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, joining Costa Rica, Panama and the winner of the third-round, two-leg series between Haiti and Grenada in Group B.
Powell, 21, has earned 19 caps for Jamaica after making his senior international debut on Dec. 10, 2012. The defender enters his second FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with the Reggae Boyz after previously playing a role in five matches during 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification for Jamaica. Most recently, Powell appeared in one group-stage match for Jamaica during the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament, playing 21 minutes as a substitute during a 1-0 win over El Salvador.
Seaton, 19, has registered two goals in 13 career international matches for Jamaica since his senior team debut on Nov. 15, 2013. Seaton, who joined the Timbers in a trade with D.C. United on Aug. 6, was part of Jamaica’s roster during its run to the championship match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, appearing as a late-game substitute in a 3-1 loss against Mexico in the final on July 26.
