A slightly "darker" training session: Timbers players witness solar eclipse

The Portland Timbers, fresh from Friday's 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls, returned to the adidas Timbers Training Center Monday morning for practice. However, this training session was a little "darker" than normal.

With a near total eclipse at hitting much of the state of Oregon–99.6% at the training center alone, according to Vox.com–Timbers players went out to warm up ready for the temporary black out. Timbers head coach Caleb Porter was asked about the unique phenomenon last Wednesday at his weekly press conference.

"We’re going to have some glasses," he said. "So we’ll put them on and take a two-and-a-half minute break when it gets dark, and then get back to work."

Witness the results.

Meanwhile, over at Providence Park, things got a little darker as well.

The Timbers social channels and website were also "eclipsed" for a portion of the day before everything returned to normal and the sun came back.
