Solo dribble by Portland Timbers’ Alvas Powell wins AT&T Goal of the Week

Fullbacks don’t always get their fair share of the spotlight, yet there’s no such worries for Alvas Powell this week.

Having already earned Man of the Match and Alcatel MLS Player of the Week honors, the Portland Timbers’ right back has won AT&T Goal of the Week for his solo dribble through the heart of Minnesota United’s defense in the Timbers’ 3-2 win in their home opener on Saturday night.

Powell’s jinking run and near-post finish garnered 46 percent of the vote, outpacing second-place finisher Jeisson Vargas' free-kick golazo for the Montreal Impact (37%).

The rest of the field finished thusly: Carlos Vela's upper-90 blast for LAFC (12%), New York City FC holding midfielder Alex Ring's missile (4%) and Kaku Gamarra's debut MLS goal for the New York Red Bulls (1%).
