PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielder Sinead Farrelly was named the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 12 of the 2015 NWSL season, it was announced today. The selection marks Farrelly’s first NWSL Player of the Week honor of her career.
Thorns FC scored two goals in the final 20 minutes to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Sky Blue FC on July 3 as Farrelly tallied the game-winning goal, her second of the season, converting a perfectly placed cross from Alyssa Kleiner with a well-struck header in the 79th minute.
Farrelly, the only player for Portland to start and play every minute this season, is the second Thorns FC player this season to earn NWSL Player of the Week honors. Goalkeeper Michelle Betos received the honor for Week 10.
Thorns FC return to action against Sky Blue FC on Saturday, July 11, at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.; kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (Pacific).
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
