Timbers, Allstate award local schools Champions of Play grants

Champions of Play Update, 9.12.18

PORTLAND, Ore. – In partnership with the Portland Timbers’ community initiative, Stand Together, and Allstate, the Timbers announced five schools as the recipients of grants from the Champions of Play program, which awards Portland metro area elementary school physical education programs with funds for new physical education equipment.

Last year, Champions of Play awarded $2,500 in grants with each of the five schools receiving $500. With an additional $10,000 contribution from Allstate, Champions of Play will award over $12,000 of physical education equipment to 10 local schools, dispersed over a fall and spring cycle.

The five area schools that received grants during the 2018 fall cycle are: Gilbert Park Elementary School, Hall Elementary School, Harrison Park School, Lincoln Park Elementary School and Rigler Elementary School.

Champions of Play aims to improve the quantity and quality of equipment available to K-5 physical education programs in the Portland metro area school districts. New equipment for play will be donated to each school included in the program. The equipment will be delivered in person by Timbers and local Allstate representatives who will share with students the importance of play, health, wellness, teamwork and friendship.

Through the Timbers’ community outreach platform, Stand Together, the team is committed to furthering its community mission to harness the power of sport to improve the lives of children and families in the region through targeted programs, deep partnerships and philanthropic giving.
