Timbers on Campus: Week of Nov. 1, 2015

Niko De Vera, Akron, 11.2.15

The 2015 college men’s soccer regular season moves closer to the postseason with just a few games remaining on the schedule, while the Portland Timbers Academy alumni are on four different NCAA teams that are ranked in the Top 25 teams.

Last week saw four different Timbers Academy alumni register either a goal or an assist for their team. Stanford forward Foster Langsdorf led the No. 4-ranked Cardinal, tallying one goal and an assist over two matches while Akron defender Niko De Vera also registered an assist in the No. 6-ranked Zips’ match against No. 25-ranked UCLA.

Additionally, forward Davis Chimento recorded his first goal of the season in Oral Roberts’ win against Central Arkansas on Oct. 27, while midfielder Issa Hassan registered his fifth assist of the season in Evergreen State’s win over Northwestern Christian on Oct. 30.

In the upcoming week, we will see No. 1-ranked Creighton take on No. 7-ranked Georgetown with both teams featuring a Timbers Academy alumnus. Forward Peter Prescott plays for the top ranked Bluejays, while freshman defender Edson Martinez aims to help the Hoyas earn the upset. While Creighton remains at the top of the NCAA, the team suffered its first defeat of the regular season in a 2-1 loss against Xavier on Oct. 28.

Throughout the season, we will keep fans updated on Timbers Academy alumni who are competing at the collegiate level.
