Timbers on Campus: Week of Nov. 23, 2015

The chase for the 2015 college men’s soccer NCAA Championship title continues as the first two rounds of the tournament have been completed. Portland Timbers Academy alumni feature on four teams that remain in the hunt for the NCAA Championship. 

No. 3-seed Georgetown, No. 4-seed Akron, No. 8-seed Stanford and No. 12-seed Creighton all remain in the hunt after the first two rounds of play.

Eight Timbers Academy alumni feature on the four remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament including Georgetown's Edson Martinez, Akron's Anthony Macchione, Jesse Garcia-Aguilar and Niko De Vera, Stanford's Foster Langsdorf and Sam Werner, as well as Creigton's Peter Prescott and Stefan Wutte.

Last week in the first round of NCAA Tournament play, goalkeeper Collin Partee and Utah Valley were eliminated from postseason play, falling 2-0 to SMU on Thursday, Nov. 19. After advancing past CSU Fullerton with a 3-0 win in the first-round, Gen Kimura and Santa Clara fell 3-1 to No. 8-seeded Stanford.

After earning a first-round bye, No. 3-seed Georgetown defeated Hofstra while No. 4-seeded Akron and No. 12-seeded Creighton earned decisive wins over Rutgers and Drake to move on to the third round.

In the upcoming week, Creighton will square off against North Carolina in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 28 while Stanford, Akron and Georgetown will all play in third round matches on Nov. 29.

Throughout the season, we will keep fans updated on Timbers Academy alumni who are competing at the collegiate level.

Stefan Wutte (Jr., D – Creighton University): Did not see action in the No. 12-seeded Blue Jays’ 5-1 win over Drake in the second round of the NCAA Tournament (11/22).

Jesse Garcia-Aguilar (So., M – University of Akron): Did not see action in the No. 4-seeded Zips’ 6-1 win over Rutgers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament (11/22).

Foster Langsdorf (So., F – Stanford University): Started and played 45 minutes in the No. 8-seeded Cardinal 3-1 win over Santa Clara in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
