We all know a special young person that makes a difference in our community. One that volunteers to work with kids, mentors others or assists those with disabilities. The Timbers and CenturyLink are looking to recognize high-school age youth in our community that work hard and make sacrifices in order to make a positive impact on those around them. Have one in mind? Nominate them today to be the CenturyLink Game-Changer.
To honor their efforts in the community, the CenturyLink Game-Changer will receive four pregame VIP passes and four tickets to an upcoming Timbers match as well as the opportunity to meet select players after the match.
The Timbers will recognize two CenturyLink Game-Changers during the 2014 season – one in the spring and one in the fall. The deadline to submit candidates for the spring recognition is Saturday, May 31. To submit a candidate, simply send an email to centurylinkgamechanger@timbers.com with the required information and a 250-word write-up how your student makes a difference.
In 2013, the Timbers’ CenturyLink Game-Changer was Westview High School student Jake Van Baest, who organized a Westview team in the Unified Sports soccer league last spring put on by Special Olympics Oregon.
Van Baest’s efforts allowed students with and without intellectual disabilities to play together on the same team and represent their school. He stepped up and organized the Westview team, recruiting players and coaches, running practices, organizing games and paperwork and enlisting the help of the Westview High School soccer staff.
