PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers defender Juan David Mosquera has been named to the MLS 22 Under 22 presented by BODYARMOR, Major League Soccer announced today.

Mosquera, 21, has made 28 appearances (26 starts) for the Timbers this season, notching two goals and tallying six assists, the second-most on the team behind Santiago Moreno (9). Mosquera scored the opening goal of the season to help the Timbers earn their first victory of 2023 against Sporting Kansas City (1-0) on Feb. 27. Amongst all MLS defenders this season, Mosquera ranks first overall in fast breaks (4) and is tied for second-most successful open play crosses (23), fourth-most chances created from open play (28), fourth-most dribbles completed (34) and fifth-most assists (6).

Most recently, Mosquera was called into the Colombian Men’s National Team to for the third time in his career to play two World Cup Qualifying games against Ecuador (Oct. 12) and Uruguay (Oct. 17). The Colombian defender made his debut with Colombia’s senior team on January 28, 2023, when he logged a full 90-minute performance against the U.S. Men’s National Team. In September, Mosquera received a callup into Colombia’s U-23 Men’s National Team to play two friendlies against Mexico to prepare for the 2023 Pan American XIX Games and the 2024 South American Pre-Olympic Tournament. Mosquera has also made appearances with Colombia’s U-17 Men’s National Team to participate in the 2019 South American U-17 Championship in Lima, Peru.
