PORTLAND, Ore. – Following a 2-0 win against Lane United FC in their season-opening match on May 14, the Portland Timbers U-23s hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Washington Crossfire on Tuesday at Redmond High School Stadium in Redmond, Wash.; kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).
The Timbers U-23s have a lengthy history against Washington (0-0-0, 0pts), which opens its 2015 schedule on Tuesday against Portand, facing the Crossfire 13 times (4-3-6) since joining the PDL in 2009. The Timbers U-23s have registered 13 goals in five matches against Washington at Redmond High School, including a 2-2 draw on June 12, 2014 in the first meeting of last season. Tuesday’s match will be the first of two regular-season games between the two Northwest Division clubs.
Portland (1-0-0, 3pts) enters Tuesday’s match after registering a 2-0 win against Lane United FC in their first game of the 2015 PDL regular season on May 14 at Providence Park. Midfielder Ivan Alvarado opened the scoring for Portland in the 54th minute while forward Ben White, a former Timbers Academy standout, tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the 77th minute to give the Timbers U-23s the win. Timbers U-23s goalkeeper Collin Partee, another former Timbers Academy product, recorded two saves to and registered a clean sheet in the season-opening victory.
Washington opens its 2015 PDL season on Tuesday. Squaring off against Washington in their final regular-season match of 2014, the Timbers U-23s posted a 1-1 draw against the Crossfire on July 14, 2014, at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Ore., as forward Foster Langsdorf recorded Portland’s lone goal in the match from an assist by midfielder Sam Werner.
Following Tuesday’s match, the Timbers U-23s return to the Rose City to play host to Kitsap Pumas on Friday, May 29, in a Providence Health & Fitness Day match at Providence Park; kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (Pacific). Tickets for the match are available online or at the Providence Park box office.
