Timbers' Miranda named First Division 'Player of the Week'

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Timbers midfielder-defender Edwin Miranda was honored as the USL First Division’s Player of the Week for Week Two, it was announced today.

Miranda, 24, earns the award for the first time in two professional seasons with the Timbers after collecting two assists in Friday’s 2-2 draw with Minnesota and playing a solid game at defender during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Seattle.

Ranking second on the Timbers in points scored this season with four (1g, 2a), Miranda becomes the third player, along with Alan Gordon (3) and Byron Alvarez, to garner the honor in the past two seasons.

Alvarez also received a nod from the league on Tuesday, earning his second consecutive inclusion on the USL First Division Team of the Week after tallying a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Sounders in Seattle.

The Timbers next travel to the Metrodome in Minneapolis, where they’ll take on the Minnesota Thunder on Saturday, May 7, at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific). The match can be heard live on KZNY AM-1010, in Spanish on KXMG AM-1150 and online at Oregonlive.com.
