– Portland Timbers midfielder Tom Poltl was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 17, it was announced today.
Poltl was selected for leading the Timbers to a 1-0 win over the Virginia Beach Mariners on Thursday night, a match that saw an end to Portland’s 11-game winless streak.
In the match, the veteran Timbers midfielder, who has made 18 appearances for the team this season, donned the captain’s armband for the first time this season in the absence of defender Scot Thompson.
