Uruguay’s Montevideo on tap for second round of Copa Libertadores

Over the weekend, the Necaxa Rayos learned their opponent for the second round of the Copa Libertadores tournament will be Nacional de Montevideo of Uruguay’s first division. The first match of the two-leg series will be played in Uruguay on Thursday, May 3. Necaxa will host the final match at Estadio Victoria a week later on May 10.
Nacional de Montevideo has a regular-season record of 5-6-2 (17pts) and has two matches remaining on their schedule.
The winner of the the two-game series will advance to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinal.
Necaxa Wrapped up the 2007 Clausura Season With 1-1 Draw Against Veracruz
Necaxa finished the 2007 Clausura season with a 1-1 draw against Veracruz on April 28 in Aguascalientes, Mexico. With a record of 4-7-6, Necaxa did not qualify for the Clausura season playoffs. The second short tournament, known as the Apertura season, begins late July or early August.
Necaxa's U.S. Tour Begins Tonight In California
The Rayos launch their 2007 U.S. Tour tonight when they play the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos in Santa Barbara, Calif. - the Gauchos won the NCAA national championship in 2007.
Necaxa has hinted at who might be on their roster when the Mexican Primera Division club heads to Portland next Wednesday. Included are a former Club America player, a Necaxa first-team striker, a U-21 Mexican National Team member and a former Chivas and Mexican National Team central defender.

It has been speculated that Brazilian striker Romario, who played with Miami FC of the USL First Division last season, had come close to signing with Necaxa ... The 41-year-old 1994 World Cup MVP has denied all accounts of his move from Brazil’s Vasco de Gama to the Mexican team.
