– Portland Timbers defender Cameron Knowles today was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for the eighth week of the season, it was announced by United Soccer Leagues.
Knowles, 24, was instrumental on the backline in Portland’s 1-0 win at Montreal on June 8. Midfielder Andrew Gregor made good on a penalty kick in the 75th minute in the 1-0 victory over the Impact.
A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Knowles is in his first season with the Timbers after playing the last two seasons with Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer (MLS). Knowles has appeared in eight league matches for Portland this season, sharing the team lead by playing in all 720 minutes in USL First Division competition thus far.
The Timbers face the Bakersfield Brigade of the Premier Development League (PDL) in U.S. Open Cup play tonight in Bakersfield, Calif. Portland returns to home action June 19 when it plays host to AC Milan Primavera in an international exhibition match at PGE Park.
