Portland Timbers defender
Cameron Knowles
was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 4, it was announced today by United Soccer Leagues. Last week, Knowles helped the Timbers’ backline record shutouts against the Rochester Rhinos and Seattle Sounders.
An All-League first-team selection in 2007, Knowles, 25, helped the Timbers record a pair of shutouts in two matches last week, both 0-0 draws. On May 8 at PGE Park, Knowles and the Timbers’ defense held Rochester to just four shots in the contest. In Seattle on May 10, Portland’s backline recorded its second consecutive clean sheet to pick up a point in its first road match of the season.
Through five games in 2008, Knowles has been a key figure on a Timbers’ defensive unit that has recorded four shutouts and allowed a single goal – the fewest in the league among teams with four or more matches.
Since joining the Timbers in 2007, Knowles has played in 37 consecutive league matches, including the 2007 postseason.
The Timbers embark on a two-game road trip to the Southeast as they face the Puerto Rico Islanders on Friday at 5 p.m. (Pacific) and Miami FC Blues on Sunday at 3 p.m. (Pacific). Both matches will be broadcast live on
