In the Portland Timbers 1-0 loss to Chivas USA on Saturday night, much was made about the team’s wing play. In an energetic game, both Brent Richards and Franck Songo’o—placed on the top outside of a 4-3-3 formation—showed inventiveness and verve on the ball.
Be it Songo’o heading down the flank with intent and great footwork with the ball or Richards on the other side flicking headers on to Kris Boyd and making darting runs, the two were in the mix throughout the match.
Despite their best efforts, the Timbers were kept off the board. That didn’t stop you all from a very close vote between the two players.
In the end it was Richards—making his first MLS start—that edged out Songo’o 40% to 37% to win the honor. He is your CenturyLink Man of the Match.
Brent Richards - 40%
Franck Songo'o - 37%
Diego Chara - 16%

Jack Jewsbury - 2%
Hanyer Mosquera - 1%
